Story Lovers; Titled: My Dream, Vol 2, Chapter 8 by Fapohunda Bolanle.
On their way out of the palace, Grace kept thanking Tony as she was too grateful and overwhelmed with joy of freedom from slavery which she had always longed for. Tony had told her not to return to her quarters for her belongings, he told her to leave the life of slavery to the palace and live a new life of freedom.
It seemed to her that meeting this set of people was after all not by accident. When they got close to their meeting point, five men who seemed like assassins from the king attacked them. Tony, protecting Grace who was terrified at the sight of the assassins kept warding them off with his fists in defence. Fortunately for them, Miracle and Timi saw them from afar and immediately went for their rescue.
After defeating the assassins, they all returned to their meeting point. “Those were clearly the king’s men” Miracle said. Timi suggested that they needed to find another meeting point or better still get a hideout on the mountains which would be conducive and convenient to strategize their course. “Why not get an apartment in the city? That will be safer…and away from the village entirely” Miracle said. They all agreed as Miracle suggested that they should change Grace’s look.
In order for her to be able to enter into the palace freely on any mission, she needed a change in appearance. “She could do plastic surgery“ Miracle said jokingly as they all laughed. They therefore agreed to work together in changing her look – getting her different wigs from the city, new set of clothes and some makeups which would make it difficult for anyone to recognize her easily.
“I’ll get a car…one of my dad’s, and the apartment” Tony said and Miracle voiced out sharply “No! I’ll get the apartment…I have eyes for houses” Tony shook his head and sheepishly agreed. Grace stood up and said with her hands spread out in the air “So…what am I doing if you all have to do everything?” She felt left out and speechless as they have taken care of virtually everything for her.
“You..take the throne. Please allow us… your subjects to do the dirty works for you…Your Majesty” Miracle said and bowed as they all giggled. Miracle moved closer to Grace and sat beside her, he held her hand and said “It’ll be fine. That’s why we are here…to make sure you are fine. You know..there is something I didn’t tell you..” “What is it?” Grace asked. “…I deferred my admission for a year because of you. Not because you need me, but because I need you. So don’t feel too bad…stop being all emotional…we are doing this because we want to. Nothing else matters… to me.” Miracle said and gave her a reassuring smile.
First of their assignment was to create awareness among the masses and stir up confusion. They therefore paid the best story teller who got the best number of audience in the market to tell the story of Grace’s father. The story attracted almost everyone in the market that it soon became a subject of gossip throughout the village. It soon got to the palace.
As soon as the king heard this, he asked that the story teller be brought to him. He asked the story teller who told him to spread the story, but the story teller had no knowledge of their names. The king therefore had him killed to stop the rumours.
Two weeks had passed after Grace gained her freedom from slavery. Miracle accompanied his father to the palace to present gifts to the king who was quite indisposed. As Miracle’s father, along with the other ministers was presenting gifts of well wishes to the king, Timi, who was at that time also present at the court guarding the king was making eye contact with Miracle.
She seemed to be disseminating some information with body language. Then, a guard noticed them. He, therefore, kept watching them for a long time till Miracle and his father left the court. Timi also sneaked out of the palace to bring information to Miracle and the others as the guard followed her unnoticed.
The guard, however, reported to the princess who later sent him with two other guards to assassinate Timi on her way back to the palace. Fortunately for her, Tony and Miracle were close by. They helped in fighting off the men. Tony, however, was slightly injured in the course of the action.
Tony was taken to a nearby physician. After the physician had attended to his wound, Grace entered to check his welfare. Tony was delighted to see her “I think my wound can heal quickly now that I see you” he said teasingly. They both giggled as Tony pulled her to himself and hugged her. He sighed in relief as though he felt comfort in her embrace. Miracle and Timi talking outside. “Its dangerous for you to keep working in the palace.
They are after your life now…You could just stay with us fully you know?” He said as Timi smiled in response.
